Moses
There is a long running joke in the car community that states, “the project car is never finished”, and this car is the punchline. This 1997 BMW 328is (E36), nicknamed “Moses”, is my first car and has been with me since the 11th grade, it also has served as a platform for many performance upgrades and custom parts designed and made in-house. The car’s main goal is to blur the line between daily driver and track car, and its purpose is to demonstrate everything ValcinTech represents.
*This page will undergo frequent updates to follow the progression of the build.
Custom Parts
-
Transmission Coupling
The car’s transition to a 6-speed manual required the creation of various transmission components. This coupling was made using the leftover pieces form the transfer case that was removed from the transmission that was installed.
-
Driveshaft
Due to the irregular nature of the transmission (E46 330xi transmission to E36 chassis), simply installing an existing driveshaft would not be possible due to a specific length requirement. The only solution was to create a custom driveshaft that was both the correct length and had a 6-bolt mounting pattern for the different.
-
Selector Rod
Like most of the drivetrain upgrades, this selector rod that is used to select gears was created in order to make another part compatible with the transmission set up. The part in question being the Garagistic Solid Mount Shifter. This part was completely designed using CAD software and 3D printing for prototyping.
-
Transmission Mounting Plate
The E36’s original transmission were rendered useless after installing the 6-speed, so custom mounting was the only solution. The mounting plate was designed using foam core board for prototyping and proper fitment then fabricated with sheet metal.
